Model Earth - Spaceship Earth’s Structure
It’s 1980 and Imagineer Marilyn Gage is putting the final piece of structural steel in place on WED’s model for Spaceship Earth. Besides boasting a clear look at the geosphere’s structural supports, this picture also gives us a great look at the “ride table” that the omnimover attraction utilizes to wend through the sphere. Notice the steep “down ramp” near the top of the table that takes vehicles down from the planetarium at the ride’s summit. Also interesting is the portion of the table that extends upwards into the planetarium that is not utilized, today, to keep Spaceship Earth structurally sound and to not tax the supports.
